Hiroshima/Nagasaki Observance

The Peace Coalition of Southern Illinois will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a potluck supper at 5:30 pm, followed by a sharing of memories.

At 7:00 pm the evening will conclude with an observance of the 63rd anniversary of the Hiroshima/Nagasaki bombings with readings, music, and a walking meditation.

Pittsburgh Hiroshima Day Flash Mob Shadow Project

Wednesday, August 6. Remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki: Imagining Peace Flashmob/shadow project: A public art event recognizing the victims of the bombings Hiroshima and Nagasaki by tracing their outlines or shadows along with the message Remembering Hiroshima, Imagining Peace. We will gather at noon at the Federal Building, dressed in black, and carrying umbrellas, where possible. We will walk down Liberty and across the Sixth St. bridge, fanning out on the sidewalk below PNC Park where we will trace the shadows of participants.

Protest the Minuteman III ICBM test launch

There is a launch of a Minuteman III ICBM test rocket set for Wednesday August 13.  Demand we stop testing nuclear weapon delivery systems.

This test ICBM goes to the Kwajalein atoll in the Marshall Islands, following a ballistic trajectory over the Pacific Ocean.   The exact launch time is still to be announced.    see   http://www.spacearchive.info/vafbsked.htm

Tallahassee Florida Hiroshima/Nagasaki Memorial Service and Candlelight Vigil

Hiroshima/Nagasaki Memorial Service and Candlelight Vigil 09AUG2008

On the 63rd anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Tallahassee will join people through out the world in a Memorial Service and Candlelight Vigil

The Gazebo, Lake Ella, Tallahassee

All people of  good will are invited.

This will be a permitted event

Speakers,  music, singing, candle lighting.

Peace Vigil to Remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki: Never Again!

Poems and Peace Vigil outside the Michigan State Capitol Building, Remembering the People of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Gather at 11:30 AM outside the Michigan Capitol Building in Lansing, to share poetry remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  (In case of rain, gather at the sheltered porch near the Capitol entrance.)

At noon, people will move to the sidewalk along Capitol Avenue, where Michigan Avenue turns on to Capitol Avenue for a one-hour peace vigil remembering Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  Never again!

Scotia/Schenectady Commemoration Event

Schenectady activists will remember the atomic bombings by hosting a memorial march in Scotia. Participants are asked to wear mourning-color clothes, either all white or all black. Bring peace cranes, gongs, drums, appropriate giant puppets, and other props. This is a solemn march across the river and back, ending with a procession to Freedom Park.

Genesee Valley Commemoration Event

Genesee Valley activists and SUNY Geneseo students will remember the atomic bombings by hosting a solemn commemoration event in Geneseo. Geneseo residents will stress the importance of adopting an anti-nuclear weapons stance in the U.S.

Broome County Commemoration Event

Broome County activists will remember the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by hosting a breakfast with special guest speaker Frida Berrigan. Breakfast will be followed by a solemn, silent walk to the confluence of two nearby rivers, the Susquehanna and the Chenango. A children’s choir will join the group.

Capital District Commemoration Events

Albany, Cambridge, Scotia, and Schenectady activists will remember the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by coming together for several events around the county. Attendees will honor the more than 300,000 people who died as a result of the bombings and subsequent radiation.
