Hiroshima-Nagasaki commemoration and call to action in Anghorage, Alaska

We plan to have readings, information about the bombing at Hiroshima, and informal speakers on various related topics. Ruth Sheridan contacted friends in the Japanese community here in Anchorage who were very pleased that this commemoration was occurring. One woman has offered to speak -- she was in her mother’s womb at the time of the bombing. We will be making paper cranes on site. I’m providing material on depleted uranium weapons, to illustrate how they perpetuate the hardship of radioactive warfare, with long-term costs to human health (soldiers and citizens) and the environment. These are only some of the things planned.

The event is sponsored by WILPF and Alaskans for Peace and Justice with participation of the Japanese-American community.
